Hey Everyone,
So i have been having some issues with my 94 ATX. I had some codes show up about 3 months ago and the car wouldn't start warm. I pulled the codes and got code numbers 212 and 214. I then replaced the CID sensor and the car started great and has run great for a while.

Well today, I went to a movie and when I went to leave, my car wouldn't start. I finally got it started and pulled the codes and again, 212 and 214 showed up. So my questions is what would cause my CID sensor to go out in 3 months?

In addition to the two codes mentioned, I am showing codes 332, 335, and 551. I know 551 relates to the intake and I am working on that. I also know that 332 and 335 are related to the EGR system (which I still need to fix), but I don't think they would cause issues with my CID sensor, but i could be wrong.

Anyways, if anyone could give me a hand diagnosing this, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, :thankyou:
Jeremy

Did you buy the cam sensor new? If it was me I would exchange it for a new one and see if that clears the problem up. You could have gotten a bad sensor.

Back in Michigan ... again.
CID = camshaft sensor, but 212 is usually the result of a CRANKshaft sensor, which is usually the cause of the stalling.

Which one did you replace?

212 could also mean a bad camshaft sensor. I just recently had the same codes, 212 and 214. I replaced the cam sensor and no more codes.

I replaced the camshaft sensor on the top left side of the engine. I did replace it with a brand new sensor. It cleared up the codes I was receiving, but those codes returned. I can try replacing the sensor again, but I don't want to fix the result without fixing the issue.

So HunterVF, could the CPS cause my CID issue? The car doesn't stall at all when running. It runs great. It is just a matter of getting it started. The codes I am receiving were the same codes I got 3 months ago and they all went away with the new CID sensor. Did i just get a bad sensor or do I need to do my CPS as well?

The CPS could definately cause the 212 and 214 code but it's a much bigger job than the cam sensor. Most places have a warranty and if you bought it from Auto Zone chances are you bought a bad one. I would replace it, it's easy to do and free and if the codes return then you will know it's definately not the camshaft sensor.

Thanks for the tips. I will pull the CID and try to get it replaced. I'll also check it for oil. Thanks for the help. I am open to any other advice people have.

Thanks

Yes, as elarm1 indicated, if the cam seal behind the camshaft sensor is leaking, it can cause the sensor some trouble.
