While trying to pull some codes form the computer I noticed that the check engine light wasn't working. I took the dash apart to find out the the bulb is good. (I tested it in another socket). I also changed the bulb holder to one that I knew worked and it still isn't coming on. I changed the ECU to and X2J and still nothing. The connectors on the back of the cluster seemed like they well all fine also. Is there a certain wire for the CEL I should be tracing?

Any other idea?

Harness had enough slack everywhere? Nothing binding at all when you took it apart the first time? Looks like it just goes thru the dash from the ECU into that connector, and back into the passenger compartment and your bulb.. not sure how its routed tho.. :) Maybe someone here knows....

Nothing seemed binded but I'll check again later today. Is the wire tan with a red strip?

The tan and red is in slot 10 on the right harness and everything look good visually. I could not see too much of the wire because after about 2" its all wrapped together. Should I start leaning towards a problem with the cluster? Is it possible to just one bulb/cicuit to go bad on a cluster?

I would think the worst or most corroded spot would be under the hood @ that connector. I'd have to look but by the diagram there should be 2 wires under one terminal.

And ya, the printed circuit boards aren't the best @ dealing with corrosion.. not sure exactally how the lights are "wired up" Maybe someone has a pic of the rear of a cluster layin around?

I am trying to get my hands ona volt meter today. Last I had a ghetto rigged light to try and see if the 10 slot was getting and power. The light didn't come on but I think the problem was with my tester because neither did any of the other slots on the right side. I will test further today.

I tested the wire from the harness behind the cluster and there doesn't seen to be any power. Does anyone know where the wire goes into the ECU?

The ECU does not supply power to the bulb, it supplies a ground to turn it on. Power for the bulb is from the cluster itself.

Go under the hood, locate the self-test connector, locate the T/R wire, and jumper it to ground with the ignition in RUN. If the bulb lights, the problem is between the self test connector and the ECU or the ECU itself. If it did not light, the problem is between the self test connector and the cluster or internal to the cluster.
