Over the past four days during highway driving, the CEL has been periodically coming on for a duration ranging from 15-180 seconds; greater than 80 Km/Hr. During city driving, less than 60 Km/Hr, the CEL does not come on. The KOEO codes recorded are 176, 219, 542 and 565. The KOER codes recorded are 136, 167 and 225.

Can I continue to drive under this condition?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated analyzing my situation.

136 - Oxygen sensor not switching/system lean Left or Front HO2S

167 - 167 No Throttle Position sensor change in "goose" test (must get at least 25% rotation)

176 - Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean Left or Front HO2S

219 - SPOUT circuit failure timing defaulted to 10 degrees - follow code 213 diagnosis

225 - Knock sensor not tested (ignore if not pinging)

542 - Fuel pump open bad ground or always on

565 - Canister Purge 1 solenoid/circuit failure

The 167 is from you not following the proper test procedure. If the car still runs they yeah, you can still drive it... You need new O2 sensors. Thats probably why your CEL is coming on periodically.

The 542 could be from if your car has stalled...

Any recommendations for the following: O2 Sensor supplier ( Wells, Bosh, OEM-Ford ); Pitfalls/ Lessons Learned while changing out the Front (Left Hand) and or Rear (Right Hand) sensors.

I will also be changing the TPS. Is there a High performanced one on the market ? Or should I use Wells and or O.E.M.-Ford ?

Change the oxygen sensors and take the test again.

Hello Ando, You should change the O2's and then take the test again. The cheapest place I found the 02s here was at Canadian Tire.

I just got my '93 sho 2 weeks ago (first Ford in 30 years) and had the same CEL issue. Reading troubleshooting posts one spoke of resetting the computer, which turned out to be my issue; the lights stayed off since.
Previous owner say's dealer told her it was nothing to worry about and ignore it.

Easy procedure; disconnect neg batt cable; key in the on position; hold brake pedal down for 30 to 60 seconds; reconnect batt cable and start car.
The car relearns all the sensor inputs.

For those with more experience than I, can the O2 sensor probe end be cleaned?

Stevem,

The simple answer to your question is no, the O-2 sensor cannot be cleaned.

It can be cleaned, but cleaning it will not improve its performance. It does not stop working because of the carbon deposits. It fails because it physically breaks down or deterioates.

A common rule of thumb for O-2 sensors is to change it at any sign of a problem if it has 50k or more miles on it. Change it at 100k no matter what. (Some mechanics say 75k)

Some of the forum members will find this a bit conservative, but I prefer preventive maintenance to roadside service :D . rangerj

Thanks for the positive feedback. However, more information is needed regarding O's suppliers and the pitfalls to avoid when changing either of these two sensors. Will this exercise be dificult ?

Ishodu/ rangerj, could the deteriorating O2 sensors effected the performance of my car on dyno day; a few weeks ago. As I recall, the graphs for the first two passes indicated that the fule consumption was very lean ?
