HEY FOLKS! I HAVE A 93 SHO AND THE CHECK ENGIE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. IF I AM ON THE HIGHWAY IT WILL COME ON FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES THEN GO OFF REPEATEDLY. IF I AM ON LOCAL STREETS IT WILL COME ON FOR A WHILE AND THEN GO OFF FOR A MINUTE THEN COME ON AGAIN.
I ASKED THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A AIR SENSOR OF SOME SORT THAT DETECTS THE LEVEL OF BURNING FUMES OR SOMETHING.
I AM AT A LOSS CAN SOMEONE HELP WITH INFORMATION!!
ALSO IS THERE A WAY TO ADJUST THE IDEL!!! :frown:

DO A SEARCH AND CHECK YOUR CODES ( Oh , sorry the caps lock was on ). If you have a check engine light, you will have set codes. And the idle is not really something that I would classify as adjustable on our cars. But with a properly running car, the idle should be fine. Search around for how to check codes. It is pretty easy, and most links have the defintions for the codes.

My `95 ATX does a similar thing. The check engine light comes on about 45 seconds after hard acceleration. It stays on for about 1 to 2 minutes and then goes out until the next time the motor gets flogged.
The thing is...it never locks a code. I just got used to it

Mine did the same thing. Now it doesn't start right half (sometimes more than half) the time. Now it's throwing a 214.

My 95 ATX does the same....coincidence?? when I dump the codes, the stored codes give me a DPFE sensor problem....yet the CEL comes on every morning in the same spot (top of a hill) on the way to work, never anywhere else...

You have a problem with your camshaft position sensor and/or circuit. The code and the symptoms point directly to that.

The fact that the light comes on and then goes off does not necessarily mean the problem has gone away or even that it's intermittent.

It sounds to me like you have an EGR issue that needs to be addressed.

When you pull the codes do you follow through and do all the KOEO and KOER tests (including the "wiggle test")?

If the CEL comes on, there is more than a strong possibility that a code is being stored. So if you pull the codes right after seeing the CEL you should get something, it takes several drive cycles w/no problems before a stored code will disappear on its own.

Which is why I'm changing it this coming weekend (I'm a little on the short $ side right now).

For each of the codes, follow the instructions in my signature in the Advanced SEARCH tool.

Make certain that the engine has reached operating temperature and that you properly followed the test instructions to pre-heat the cats before running the codes.

Sometimes, it takes more that one drive cycle with a fault to actually turn on the CEL.

EGR valves very seldom fail...

Plz hit your CAPS LOCK key...

Mine does the same thing. It shows no codes stored or running pertaining to this.
I recently changed both oxygen sensors.
The car was very clean going through emmissions with the CE problem.
There are no EGR valves on Gen I & II SHO's unless they are original California cars.
I think this may be a faulty or dirty MAF.
This is very characteristic of Ford MAF's needing attention on other Ford vehicles.
They get cleaned with "Tuner cleaner" or replaced.

Cleaning the MAF sensor is a good suggestion.

BTW, All SHOs (50 states) with the automatic tranny/3.2L came with EGR systems.

116 - Engine Coolant sensor out of range.
Probably need a new ECT sensor.

136 - Left/front oxygen sensor not switching or system lean.
Probably need a new front oxygen sensor (I'd go ahead and replace both).

332 - EGR did not open intermittantly.
Likely clogged EGR ports in the intake manifold, disconnected or broken EGR vacuum lines, or possibly a bad EGR valve.

Oh yeah, and you might want to check your caps lock while you're at it...I think it may be stuck on...

I'm sorry to hear that all the atx sho's got egr, really sorry. Only the California MTX's did.
However since we all are experiencing very similar symtoms, I would think that it reduces the likeliness that this is EGR related.
