So after over 50,000 miles on the mods in my signature I am suddenly getting a P04DB DTC. The car continues to run great but I obviously want to look into what is going on. Based on my amateur research it is a crankcase ventilation system issue. Potentially the sensor? I pulled the cover off and removed and wiped down the sensor. Put it back in and cleared the code. No code for a day but its back again now. Just seeing if you all had any ideas before I just bring it to the dealer. Will brace for the "your mods are causing it" talk.

There is a problem with the PCV system. I would say there is something not working properly within the system and it is not allow proper ventilation/recirculation.

Thanks SM105K. I agree completely. The sensor I was referring to is the PCV crankshaft sensor. I am thinking that it has failed or is failing. I will probably just bring it to the dealer and let them sort it out.

I would have them check the PCV valve on the rear cover, and see if it is full of oil. I would also consider getting a catch can.

I do have a JBR catch can (will update mod list). It's been on since the beginning. I empty it out every oil change. I will ask them about the PVC valve on the rear cover. Thanks again for your help!

Or at least I would have if I had the capability to edit my signature. Looks like I don't have enough posts to allow that anymore LOL

Could be needing a simple PCM update if it is similar to the issue on Escapes

I don't even see this code in the 2013 Taurus FSM LOL.

If it IS a sensor, you are likely looking at the sensor on the clean air side of the PCV system, i.e., bank 2, not bank 1. This was a new sensor added sometime I think in the 2015 MY?

Someone with the same code on the Raptor, replaced the sensor to solve

Good stuff @SHOdded . Thanks for sharing. I saw the Raptor video and that is actually the sensor I pulled and cleaned up. I am hopeful that the dealership just replaces it under warranty and I skip off into the sunset but we shall see. Appointment is tomorrow morning so I will update how it goes (not that anyone cares but some like closure?) LOL

So I was at the dealership first thing yesterday AM and they took the car in right away. About two hours later they said it was all set. They replaced the crankcase ventilation sensor under EPS and sent me on my way. I get out to the car and start it and the check engine light is still on. I headed back in and they took the car right back in and said maybe they forgot to clear the code. Another 45 minutes or so go by and the service guy comes to me and says "Do you have an aftermarket oil catch can on the car?". I told him I did and he said that that was the problem. Said that oil had become "gunked" up in it and was setting the sensor off. The cleaned it out good and reinstalled but still said the problem was there. I asked them to button it up and I would deal with it later as I began to have concerns that they were going to go after my mods. I get in the car to go home after they button it up and the light is off. Hasn't come back on since. Guess I will see how it goes but so far so good!

Another idiot Ford Tech that doesn't know what he is talking about.

Still clear as of today so I am calling it good. I think Jeff is right that it needed some time to clear/clean up. So between the sensor replacement (likely the issue) and the cleaning of the JBR catch can the problem is rectified in case anyone else has this problem.
