I have a 1993 SHO 3.2 automatic. I checked the check engine codes today since I found out how. They were all read with switch on and engine off. Here they are: 522 (Hard Fault), 181, 189, 634, 647 (Memory). I know what they mean but don't know what to do to fix them. Can anyone help? P.S. - Code 647 - isn't that for standards and not automatics? Thanks guys

The 181 and 189 codes indicate a lean condition sensed in both banks. Both O2 sensors might be bad, or you have a vacuum leak in the intake causing the engine to run lean.

If the engine appears ro run normally, has no stumbling or rough idle, and the O2 sensors are over 30K miles or of unknown history, I'd replace them. Do check for a vacuum leak around the air intake hose, the throttle body, the intakes, and around the myriad hoses first.

The 522 and 634 indicate a problem with the sensor switch that tells the computer the position of the gearshift lever.

647 has to do with the 3rd gear shift solenoid in the ATX, not the manual. Might indicate a possible tranny problem, perhaps one of the ATX guys has seen it before.

I get the 647 code when my ATX has a problem down shifting from 3rd to 2nd. I believe the error indicates that the ATX rpm did not match the computer requested RPM after a certian time.
