Just got back from a trip in my 94 and both my girlfriend and I found the seats pretty uncomfortable pretty uncomfortable. It takes all of about 30 seconds for the air to come out of the lumbar support after inflating it.

Anyway, I was thinking about changing to one of them light weight racing seats. Has anyone tried a seat swap? If yes, does anyone have any comments or suggestions for brand?

Some sites for these seats claim to have mounting brackets to fit hundreds of different cars so I'm assuming they'll have one for ours.

Thanks.

Corbeau and another company(I think Recaro) sell mounting rails for the Taurus. You can get seats from them also, or from a company that sells seats that have the same mounting places as either company.

If the only problem with your current seats is that the lumbar doesn't stay inflated, you might want to make sure that the tubing is connected and that its not leaking from the pump. Just about everyone says that the SHO seats are about the most comfortable factory seat they've been in. This is assuming you aren't 6'7" or 300lbs. If you are, you might have trouble with a racing seat too as they are usually much more narrow and the cushions are deeper.

Here is a how-to on this particular problem fix.

If you're looking for comfort a racing seat on long drives might not be your cup of tea. If you can't get the seats where you like them I would look for another newer Ford factory seat like from a GenIII or something.

You're absolutely right. I have a gen 3 that I use for travelling and the seats are really comfortable.

I sat in my buddy's prelude with what I think were racing seats for about a two hour trip and I thought they were OK. I wont be travelling much in the other car so I figured I'd try and take a little weight off the car as long as I was looking for different seats. A couple of the sites, including Corbeau's, offer some options for their seats like added width and lombar support.

I'd say that a three-hour trip in buckets is gonna be the limit of your comfort. After that, you'll be shifting more than your car.

I did 16 hours from NJ to GA straight in the SHO. It was a very good drive. I know there are some that have done more than that. Mark Nunnally used to drive even further than that and he did it with both SHO seats and racing buckets. If you have a good bucket, you'll be very comfortable. I used to drive 1000 miles round trip one weekend per month in the SHO. The only stop was for bathroom/gas for 5 minutes. It was a great drive and I could have kept driving. If you "fit" in the SHO, you shouldn't have a problem with getting tired during a drive.

If you are looking for very comfortable aftermarket seats, its very likely that you'll end up spending more on the seats than your car is worth.

If you really like sportin' seats, get your SHO seats a cushion-push-up and fix 'em rips... oh yeah, get the tubes tied.. gotta get the tubes tied!
