Changing rear rotors and pads?

Im changing my rear rotors and pads. This is my first time doing it BTW.

Following the SHOTimes guide,
Make sure the caliper locating pins are out of their respective holes.

I bought the TORX-T40 3/8 ratchet part. I just dont know how to use it.


Also bought the Caliper Pin tool. To my understanding, I just screw the piston out right? I dont have to screw it back in?


Is there anything else I will need? Im tired of paying people to do simple work and want to learn myself so any help is great thanks.

Look in at rear of the calipers. There will be either two 13mm bolts, or two Torx
bolts. Unscrew both caliper bolts. The caliper should tip back(?) or forward..
It will come out either one way or the other..Take a pair of pliers (I tape the jaws) Gradually twist the piston while pushing in on it. OR, before you take the caliper off, insert a large screwdriver into the top of the caliper and pull towards the outside of the car. This will compress the piston somewhat. this should allow
you to use a c-clamp without damaging the piston. The main thing is, if the piston won't go in easily, you must twist it to get it to retract into the caliper.
( not a full turn, maybe 1/2 or a 1/4 turn.) Good luck! :thumb:

These are the Ford Service Manual instructions for the 1992 SHO, which should be similar. The caliper retractor tool for the rear brakes has two pins on a disk that mate with the slots in the face of the piston. Rotating the tool clockwise screws the piston in, retracting it to provide space for the new thicker pads. I assume that is the tool you have.

Removal:

1. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Refer to «Section 00-02».

2. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Refer to «Section 04-04».

3. Remove screw retaining brake hose bracket to shock absorber bracket.

4. Remove retaining clip from parking brake cable at caliper. Remove cable end from parking brake lever.

5. Hold slider pin hex heads with open-end wrench. Remove upper pinch bolt.

6. Rotate caliper away from rotor.


7. Remove inner and outer brake shoes.


Installation

1. Using Rear Caliper Piston Adjuster T87P-2588-A or equivalent, rotate piston clockwise until it is fully seated.

NOTE:
Ensure that one of the two slots in piston face is positioned so it will engage nib on brake shoe.


2. Install inner and outer brake shoes in anchor plate.

3. Rotate caliper assembly over rotor into position on anchor plate. Ensure that brake shoes are installed correctly.

4. Remove residue from the pinch bolt threads and apply one drop of Threadlock and Sealer E0AZ-19554-AA (ESE-M4G204-A) or equivalent. Install and tighten pinch bolts to 31-35 N-m (23-26 lb-ft), while holding slider pins with an open-end wrench.

5. Attach cable end to parking brake lever. Install cable retaining clip on caliper assembly.

6. Position brake flex hose and bracket assembly to shock absorber bracket and install retaining screw. Tighten to 11-16 N-m (8-11 lb-ft).

7. Install wheel and tire assembly. Refer to «Section 04-04». Tighten wheel lug nuts to 115-142 N-m (85-104 lb-ft).

8. Lower vehicle.
