I just recently got a 99 SHO, and was curious if I could change oil brands from what was being used in it. Actually, since I bought it from a dealership, I'm not sure what oil was being used in it. I want to use 5w-30 or 10w-30 Mobil One full synth. Would there be anything to worry about engine damage, cause I'm pretty sure that's not what was being used.

Thanks

With only 25K, you should have no problems switching to synthetic. Older engines tend to leak when synthetic is used because it's thinner and can escape through a seal easier. But switching brands or non-synthetic to synthetic won't cause damage in any engine. It's just a myth.

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you keep the oil and filter changed on a 3,000 mile interval, it really doesn't matter what oil you use. However, I do use Mobil 1 5w30 in mine.

Okay, that's cool, I'll give her the good stuff. And for now I'll use the 5w-30 Mobil One, and if I notice that she is using some between changes, then I'll go to the 10w-30.

BTW, this car rocks. I can't wait to do some mods and take her to the track. thumbs_u
