Changed rear brakes, now HOT and VIBRATING

I changed my rear brakes on my 92 a couple days ago, and haven't driven it much since then. I changed the rotors out for the Raybestos (I think) ones from NAPA, and stock organic type pads from schuck's. I also changed out the caliper brackets, since I had a couple bad slider-pins.

I was on my way to work and noticed some strange vibration, as if I had a bulge in a tire, but not as bad. I stopped at a gas station to check things out, and I could smell my rear brakes pretty decently. My rear slicers were warm/hot to the touch. Did I do something wrong? Is this normal for rear brakes?

My old brakes were in horrid condition. One side was wearing down the metal studs / grinding really bad on the rotor, and the other side had kinda quit working a while back I think, and I figured it was because of the slider pin that was totally frozen in place. The calipers compressed just fine with the tool Glen lent me, so what could the problem be? :/

You need new calipers.. Your caliper pistons are not retracting back after you let up off the brake pedal. You probably found it to be difficult to get the pistons to turn back in too right? Just replace them, or the one thats getting hot and you'll be good to go.

The emergency brake may not be releasing. The emergency brake cables are attached to an arm that actuates the e-brake. I forget exactly how to do it, but using either a screw driver or pliers, you can move the arm so the brake releases. Probable cause, e-brake cable rusted, don't use the e-brake until everything is lubed.

Don't think it might have to do with the parking brake / parking brake cable? Just wondering, considering the calipers would be around $200 (without the core), and the brake cables would be more like $40?

I would check the e-brake first, it's easy to do.

Another problem people have reported is the brackets that hold the rubber brake lines rust. The rust takes up more space than the metal that was originally there and it pinches off the brake line.

I had posted a reply to SHO SPD mentioning the parking brake stuff, then noticed your reply, etc :p I think I'm going to be changing my parking brake cables today.

Here's an update on the situation:

I disconnected the parking brake cables from the levers on the rear knuckles, and they don't seem to build up nearly as much heat now. I think the minimal dragging that's going on now is because of the new pads with less than 20 miles on them. I ordered a set of rear parking brake cables (left and right) from NAPA today, and hope to get them installed tomorrow. Til then, no parking brake for me, I've got wood blocks in my trunk to chock the tires :bonk:
