Anybody know of a supplier for ceramic brake pads for my '93 SHO? I have found many sources for the later models, but none for the '92-'93.

The P/N I found is Raybestos PGD421AQS $56.99 at partsamerica.com (Direct Auto Parts, Advance AP, Kragen, etc.).

I'm not very knowledgable but I thought with the 93s the limiting factor of the OEM brakes is rotor warping? What do you gain with ceramic pads? Does the car actually stop faster? Do the rotors last longer than with carbon fiber/metallic? And if and when the rotors need to be turned/ground down, Do you have to get new pads? Again I know next to nothing and am interested in getting better longer lasting brakes for my 93. Thanks for any info.

PS-I cannot afford the $1400 brake upgrade but I might do the Midas lifetime Pads deal in the next couple of days but I don't think it is would be all that good of a deal if they use inferior pads.
Maybe ceramic is the way to go. :)

The 96 upgrade is very affordable, and if you need new brakes anyway, really doesn't cost that much more and is worth every penny. The hardest part is probably getting the new knuckles.

My car had Performance Friction carbon metallic pads when I bought it. They have good stopping power, but are noisy and produce lots of brake dust. My experience with ceramic pads is that they offer comparable stopping power to metallic pads, but without the noise and dust, while giving longer life.

So with the 96 brake upgrade you can get bigger rotors for a 93MTX? I think the 93 has 10.2 inch rotors. How big is the 96 upgrade and who can I get the upgrade from? Thanks for the lead K-Dawg.

The parts required for the upgrade are:

94-95 Taurus/Sable/SHO knuckles
rotors: 95 continental(usually cheaper) or 96-99 SHO
caliper brackets:95 continental or 96-99 SHO
calipers: 94-99 SHO, any will work
pads: 96-99 SHO, 94-95 pads will work, but the 96-99 ones are larger

So if your a savvy junkyard shopper, you can do it real cheap.

Get the kit from Midwest SHO, SP Motorsports, SHO Shop, FPS I'm sure, or as mentioned, put it together yourself. You're going to need the new knuckles anyway (new ones are VERY expensive; about $275 dealer COST each).
