Anyone ever hook up a CB Radio or police scanner using the space of one of the DINs? Are there any models that fit snugly into the DIN? I remember seeing a pic that someone installed a scanner in place of the ash tray. It looked pretty neat. It's either this or a radar detector, but you're talking in the $300/$400 for a good reliable one. Thoughts pleaze...

I had a cheap Cobra CB Radio in the casette tray under the DIN spots of my ex 94 ATX. I'm not sure why; I think I wanted early warnings of speed traps during long late night drives to visit my ex g/f in Gettysburg PA. It was rarely used unless my friends were arguing with truckers though.

At one point I wanted a scanner, a CB radio and a Valentine 1 along with a custom license plate that said " AWACS SHO". :***:

I would've had more antennae than an RC car.

A radar detector will do much more for you then a CB if you are looking to avoid tickets. Unless you drive on interstate highways all the time, and even then the CB is only as good as the people using it.

Neither one is going to help you avoid tickets unless you are already paying very good attention to your suroundings. A radar detector will help to keep you honest. I found out as soon as I started using a radar detetor that it isn't going to allow you to speed wherever and whenever you feel like it. I actually slowed down a considerable amount after I started using one.

Don't waste your $ on a CB. I used to drive a truck, the only reason I used it was to occasionally turn it on to hear about weather. And to hear when my trailer/load was ready at a backhaul... Its mostly a bunch of children cussing at each other. The FCC doesn't even regulate it anymore. When I was a kid my dad had a call sign/#(not a handle). You still are technically supposed to write in to the FCC and get one...

Had a cb in my SHO when I went to Texas but it was there incase I took a wrong exit or got lost.

Have a Valentine 1 in there above the rear view mirror. IMO you can't do better than a v1. I had it hooked up and lying in the pass floorboard one night "didn't know it was on" passed a cop that had a guy pulled over. Just before I got there like 50 foot or so it went off. Maybe further.
Here the cops run with the radars on most of the time, if they use insant on or they are shooting with a gun, lazer or pop you will get caught speeding. Unless you get lucky and you catch the reflected beam.

I swear by my V1 but only good if your not speeding, just helps keep you strait.

I don't have and won't have a cb in the SHO cause I think cb antennas make the sho look bad. Just for long trips.

My V1 has paid for itself at least 10x over.

Heck, saved my **** just last night. Got a signal from around the corner, and up the hill. I was heading southbound. He was parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane at the bottom of the hill. I didnt have a visual on him until I got to the top of the hill. My V1 saw him before that.

Hey whats wrong with CB radio

Me and a couple of my friends talk on CH 1 daily around Plymouth MI,. I plow snow and all the work trucks are equiped with them. I mounted mine on the passenger side center cousel best place i could find for it but its rather big. If your looking for a small radio check out the Midland 290, its not the best radio but its small it has weather and a removable face, could possibly fit into the empty tray below the radio

Where I had mine on the long trip. Also, had something under the passenger seat to keep you warm.........................
I have a C.B. in my pickup. I have a Ranger RCI 6900f150 and a Wilson 1000 mag mount that I used on the SHO for the long trip with a Texas star 350HDV "sold that and bought the RCI".

We talk on 3 and 20 here in this end of Tennessee.

Another small radio to consider would be the Uniden Pro 510, loud for their size after modding slightly and have a front mic plug.
