The CPS is a possibility. Go to the phoenix sho project web site, and read up on the 60K maintenance procedure, or do a search here on CPS replacement. I don't know about the wire you are asking about. It has been a while since I did the 60K.

You should also check the fuel pressure with a guage. You may be getting fuel, but not enough fuel. Check for loose ground wires, and connections. These cars are notorious for engine movement pulling stuff loose.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but perhaps that will get you started.

Good Luck.

You sure you're jumping the plug correctly? You should at least get an all clear code although with the check engine light there should be at least one code. If not maybe there is a problem with your pcm. Unhook the battery and leave it off for a while to let the power drain from the system. Then hook it back up and see if the check engine light returns.

if with the new cps i get no start i will run to the junkyard and grab the xj2 from there and see if i get a difference. the only other things that are left to go wrong are the coil which i have another here. and the dis which i dont have another. but i can get most parts from the local yard. needless to say this car is being sold after its up and running again.

What's wrong with the turn signals? Maybe you have a wiring problem, or bad alt. has been known to cause all sorts of weird electrical stuff to happen.

That single bare wire is the CPS's shield drain wire. It needs to be plugged in up top to drain the static electricity back to ground. The CPS signal is a very weak and easily messed with signal. Thou shalt shield all sensitive wires and drain the shield constantly. Matthew 31:07
