My car just started to misfire recently. I replaced the plugs with the Motorcraft ones and replaced the wires with Autolites. Car is getting fuel and air. When I try to start it, it cranks, then will hesitate, and crank again, repeat, until I give up. I don't know what to do! Did my coil go bad? Did I overlook something? PLEASE HELP ME!!! :frown:

I think the only wires realyl recommended for the SHO are motorcraft and taylor...some use bosche I think.

I believe that other wires do not fit properly and so no spark is made due to no contact/poor contact.

Does it try to fire or does it just crank and crank? Any codes? Tach moving while cranking? Got gas?

did it just start after you changed plugs and wires? if so, check that all the plugs are pushed down good...you can feel it 'click' onto the top of the spark plug.
did you pull them all off and then start putting the new ones on? if so, you might have crossed some wires.
was there oil in your plug wells? refer to '60k time!' below.

if before and after you changed wires:
are you lowish on coolant? possibly dripping onto CPS
this happens a lot when your 60k maintenance is needed soon...
could be CPS and/or CID {oil from valve cover gasket may leak onto it and **** it.
check your codes...you may find more info.

p.s. i have accel wires on mine...so far so good. like 1000 km so far

Before replacing anything else try holding the gas pedal to the floor then crank it. I recall a TSB about sometimes the intake gets flooded and needs to be cleared. The same TSB recommended if the same condition continued to replace the starter for an updated/faster cranking starter thus eliminating the situation? Sometimes I wonder where these engineers get their cures for some of these problems!?!

I didn't check for codes. I will do that soon. I did not notice of the tach was moving. I'll check next time. I did not check the belt but the 2nd 60K was done at around 120K. I replaced the DIS module, the crank sensor, plugs, and wires. This happened before I replaced plugs and wires. Everything else looks OK. I double and triple checked everything and it looks good. Something in the ignition circuit is bad or going bad. I still want to check out the coil. Something tells me it went bad. After all, it is original. I'm ****** because this problem happened so suddenly.

I bought new Motorcraft AGSP32PP plugs and Autolite wires. I started it up and it now runs just fine and has since. The wires are only 7 mm and they should be 8 mm, so I wanna get some Taylor 8 mm wires soon and sell these wires. Thanks for the info!

That number is now obsolete.

The Motorcraft replacement is now AGSP32FM. Add a suffix of F6 or a stock number of 6111 for a 6-pack.

I paid $2.99 each from O'Reilly's a couple of weeks ago.
