Hey guys. I thought I'd post here to minimize the possible flame throwing and also because the members of the AZSHOC are intellectually superior:).

So, I CAN machine it but will shaving .002" compromise the holding capacity?
This is a CM1 PP, BTW.

Nick,

I guess you can, but why would you want to? If it's that warped, there might be other issues. Most small machine shops wont have the desire or equipment to do a pressure plate. There isn't a good way of holding the plate in the grinding machine so that the plate is perpendicular to the axis of the stone. You can ask them first before you head down. As a second opinion, try AZ Brake and Clutch on I-17. They do a lot of big rig clutches and brakes and might be able to help you.

Did you smoke that clutch already with only 6 pounds?!?

Can you machine the mounting lip on the plate housing to offset the material removed from the plate itself?

^ didn't think about that... I already machined the PP about .002" It wad some very bad hot spots and wiped metal from the violent death of the disc. I actually managed to machine it with a brake lathe -don't ask how but it turned out perfect save for the reduced thickness.

Well, nevermind. This PP is done -2 of the finders are damaged and the TOB contact area does not look so good. I'm a cheap-ass.

To answer your question Tom, yeah, the stock clutch does not want to hold the 6 psi...
