Can you hear the turbos with a CAI?

Picked up a '13 SHO the other day. I am going to do a tune (seems livernois is the only game in town for the 13's), and am considering a CAI as well. My question is, does a CAI allow you to actually hear the turbos?

Way back in the day, I had an eclipse turbo. When I put a CAI on it, you could hear some really awesome sucking sounds as the turbo spooled :dribble:

On the SHO, you can't hear anything. If it weren't for the slight lag off the line, you'd never know the engine had a turbo.

Yes, K&N intake and you can really hear them spool, and hear the pop off when getting off throttle. My wife thought something was broken, even after I told her about it! She likes it now.

If you want to hear the sweet symphony of twin turbos and diverter valves, K&N is the only choice.

I just installed my airaid and I can't say that the turbo noise is as prominent as I would like them, but it is still much more noticeable than when they were stock.

It also wouldn't hurt to take the noise deadening material off from the underside of the engine cover. I did run the car without the engine cover for a couple days while I was plasti dipping the cover, but can't say that there is much of a difference between engine cover off and running an engine cover without that sound deadening material.

Overall, with the airaid cai and the removal of that material the engine sounds great when accelerating (even when your not pushing the throttle hard.) So much so that I'm no longer looking for a cat-back, at least not for the next couple of months. :)

The only concern I had with the K&N was that it wouldn't of had passed emission standards in NY.

I have a new 2013 SHO and I also installed the Airaid CAI from Livernois. I can hear a slight whistle but not exactly what I would have expected, not 100% happy with the sound, really quiet...

@XUJN when you say you removed the sound deadening material from the underside of the engine what exactly are you referring to? Sorry if this is an obvious one...

I'm not sure it is a good idea to remove that insulation on the lower engine cover. That's where the Turbos are, and they might heat it up and melt it. Mine has reflective aluminum facing upwards. Also, it is there to provide better aerodynamics to the underside of the car. Some SHO owners who removed it found their hoods flapping at high speed, though this isn't an issue with my Brick.

XUJN was talking about the engine cover on top of the intake, under the hood. You can remove the cover and see if it gives you the sound that you are looking for. If so, you can remove the sound deadener.

When you guys are talking about the K&N filter are you talking about the drop in filter or the CAI?

Thank you.
