We have heard that the valve shims can be turned over and reused. Should this be done and has anyone done this? We have noticed that some of the shims have a raised portion in the centre, should these shims be discarded?

Yes you can use the opposite side. Just make sure you record the thickness, as the number will wear off over time. Are you sure its a raised portion and not just discoloration from the oil?

There is discoloration, but if you were to drag your finger nail across the centre area you can feel the raise point. There are only a couple like this.
