I am curious as to how i go about removing the rocker panel cover...I mean i see the screws but they seem to spin freely, at least on the rear ones. Do i grasp the reverse side with something? is that all there is to it.. let me know
Thanks in advance

I think they're those plastic screws and inserts- I've always had to pin something in between the screw and the insert so the threads had some force holding them against the insert so the screw would back out of the holder. Careful removing the holders too- they tend to split easily...

Be forewarned, unless it's a Cali or southern car, the rails that support the top of the rocker moulding will likely disintegrate when you pull the moulding from rust.

hes saying dont fix whats not broken, or take it off because you're curious. Unless you plan on doing somethign about the rusted moldings because you might not get the rockers back on.

actually the good news is the rocker panels are no where near the horrible shape i anticipated, that includes the supports. The passener side was better than the drivers side with only a few holes...the drivers side is missing about foot maybe less of the rear part of the rocker. although it did take a little work and a few broken screw inserts to remove the molding...im sure i can purchace some somewhere.

The bad news...well the bad news is i just cracked my knee cap off of my desk and i want to cry.

I know it is ill advised by most body professionals, but i think im going to remove as much of the rust as i can...POR-15 it and then fiberglass the missing holes/sections of the rockers. It will last a few years if done correctly and in that time ill hopefully come across a southern or cali Gen 1 with potential! if not...ill get the half rockers and possibly rear quaters done professionally within a year or so but would rather keep myself busy and salvage before more damage is created by the rust.

surprisingly...the floor pans are just starting to show signs of a little rust coming through the paint so those can be easily saved with some grinding, POR-15 and a little coating. I think this might have orignially been a southern car and IIRC Chris, Sonic-riot might have said it was a souther car. I imagine if it was a PA CT NY or so the car would have been as bad as my last...a year new version with tons more rust. and many more issues...did i mention i payed twice as much for it...not knowing what i was getting into purchacing my first car ha!

yea i wasnt jsut removing because i was curious...ive already started some body repairs and figured with my rear bumper cover being sent tomorrow..and the other body work almost finished that i would just try to salvage what i could with these rockers.
It def wont be as bad of a job as i thought it would...and the supports are fine except about 4 inches of it that snapped off the drivers side rear.

good luck with your endevours with that.

I repainted my car a few years back and when I took the rockers of the bracket did just crumble. Luckily I had some metal laying around with just the right bend in it, so with some trimming and drilling, it was like brand new.

Kinda off topic but...does anyone else find it interesting that Ford used a sable bumper as a support for the SHO's rear bumper cover? At least on mine, when I took it off I found a hard plastic, white sable rear bumper with the SHO cover clipped around it and as far as I know my car was never rear ended.

It should be a regular Taurus bumper. ALL gen 1 and gen 2 SHO's are like that.
