Sorry for this dumb question, but the chilton's manual was very vague on where the camshaft postioning sensor is.

Well if you stand on the passenger side of the car and look down at the back-front corner of the engine you should see it down there. Looks kinda like a hockey puck with an electrical connection coming out of the side. Maybe somebody has a more technical description, but if you look down there you should find it fairly easy.

yup, its right on the passenger side of the rear cam tower (cant miss it). electrical conector pointing up. 2 screws hold it on.

if you get a replacement first you will see the resemblance...

Definately one of the more frustrating sensors to get to. My hand could barely fit in there before I removed the torque limiter altogether.

THANX guys, thats a big difference from the Chiltons manual, which just said look on the right side of the engine.

You might as well replace the belts, since you'll be removing them to make room to get back there.

It is on the right side of the engine.

Use a RWD configuration, front of engine is at front of car.

Sitting in the driver's seat determines "Left" & "Right".

Now turn the engine for a FWD. Stand at the back of the engine, that'll determine "left" & "right".

Although Chilton's bites the oscar meyer big time, they're correct, the cam sensor is on the right side of the engine, buried by the strut tower on the passenger side as these guys have shown.

On a side note, the diagram is somewhat confusing if you're not paying attention - "front of vehicle arrow" can mislead some on orientation of the engine, especially with the 2nd lift backet shown behind the TB.

Take the battery out and you can reach in under the power steering resevior. I use a very short handled 1/4 ratchet or my snap-on "puck" ratchet.

The only I did was remove the bolt to move the power steering reservoir when I changed it on the 3.2 ATX...I just pushed it out of the way. It wasnt that bad. 2 bolts and 1 clip and its out.

I wouldnt say I have small hands either. Intake and belt still on.

I've done that too but thet rubber mount for the resevior gets delicate over the years and there's actually more room with the battery out. The resevior mount spun right apart on my 93. If you plan to do it that way keep some large zip ties handy or a new mount.

With an extension you can get directly to the screws through a hole in the strut tower. With the wheel off of course.

How would the battery out help with giving more room? The battery is in the front of the engine bay, and the CID is almost up against the firewall...

To each their own I guess.

Get in there and pulls things out as necessary to replace it.

I just took off the crossover tube on the intake and it took me a total of literally 5min 51secs to change mine out.
