Alright, I am about to get a 60k done....hopefully by someone very knowledgable....but I haver a coupla questions first...

I lost some serious top end power a while ago...I can hear the secondaries open up, but it doesn't pull like it did...

Could this be from bad cams? or bad shims? The car has had the oil changed religously its entire life, but never had the heads pulled apart and the shims checked.

Should I worry? What should I expect?

Lastly, how hard is it to put in 3.0L cams?

Well, that could be the culprit right there. I thought you were going to try this one yourself Teg. Don't spend all that money on labor. wink

Your best bet is to have the 60K done, since the cams can be inspected then. Even with some wear, after the valve lash adjustment and the balance of the 60K work, you should still see a marked improvement. You could always replace the cams at a later date if you need/want to, although I suspect that even with 130K you'd still find the cams in good shape as long as the oil has been changed regularly and the car hasn't had the **** beat out of it.

Contact drivinhard (Mark N.) here and buy the 60k video straight from him. He made the thing. It is a very good tool. Josh gets backed up give it a little time.

I didn't do my 94 ATX until it had 140K and all shims were still within limits except 3 exhaust shims (.001") out.

On the other hand you do need to fix the oil well seals and you might as well do the shims while you have the cam covers off.

Turns out Josh is too booked to do a 60k for me :(

So, time to really read up on it, grab the parts and tools and go at her..

However, my tranny is just about gone now....it used to race a little in 4th, then it became a definate slip, then today it wouldn't shift into 4th, the fluid reeks, and it shifts incredibly hard.....interestingly though, the hard shift from 3-2 it had before is gone...probably a good sign that the clutch plates are gone :(

Thanks

If you're going to spend a good amount on a tranny rebuild be sure to get it done correctly so you won't have to keep taking it back.

hey Teg,

If you're going to do your 60k on your own, I wouldn't mind coming by to give you a hand if you're interested... I'm planning on doing my '94 sometime in the near future, and wouldn't mind getting involved for the experience... I'm not a mechanical wizard, but it's another set of hands...

email me if you're interested.

Corey, I would suggest for convenience if one of you got your hands on a shim kit that you both do the valve shim gapping around the same time. The kits make their way around and sometimes require you to wait to get your hands on one. Plus one could look at the other car in case you forget where something goes. thumbs_u

Hey guys.
I'm the area too. Let me know if you need help when you do your 60K. I saw Josh do mine so I may remember a few things.
