anyone have that problem before?
TIA
Rick

ps I am talking about the metal thing that is held on with 2 screws and rotates past the magnet/sensor.

Did you clean up the cam so you cannot see which way it was on?

I have always been very careful with that to keep it the same way. I do not know for certain that it must be one way but I always assumed there was a "right" and a "wrong" way.

Hmmm....I did clean and polish the face of the cam around the edges so i could get the seal back on. I looked close to see if there were any marks or other hints but the face was pretty much blemish free. I will say that the view that shows the CID vane and the window with the TDC above it IS how i have it now. (and the engine is at tdc) so if anyone else found the car did not run right with it 180 lemme know what the symptons are. Heck it may not even start! then i will know it is 180 out right!
Thanks, you guys are really a lifesaver.

It won't even fire if 180* off - that would put the spark at the end of the exhaust stroke rather than the end of the compression stroke

As I replied to your PM, there is only one way for the cam vane to bolt to the cam. You cannot bolt it up 180 degrees out. The two little phillips head screws are slightly offset. The sensor itself is also keyed so that it too can only bolt up one way, with the wiring plug slanted towards the firewall. Hope this helps.
