im rebuilding my engine and want to put new cam seals in. i order some new ones awhile ago and am now ready to use them. the problem im worried about is, i remember reading somewhere that the seals with metal in them dont seal as well as the originals. i think i ordered them from rcm. is there any way to use the metal seals i already have or should i just buy the originals? and if i need the originals, where could i get them.

If i remember correctly RCM sells Felpro seals. And it gets the job done. Good luck trying to find the Ford's ones. Go with the RCM stuff.

When I built my motor I used Ford seals on everything except the VC's. With the cams/front main/rear main - the non-Ford seals can be sorta problematic.

With the cam seals I put a bit of RTV around the outer edge of the seal, per the Helms manual, to seal it against the head....30k and not a drop.

I put a little bit of motor oil on the inner race of the seal to help it glide on....and make sure it is fully seated. I tapped it lightly with a flat-head screw driver to push it in all the way.
