Anyone on here know the part # for a cam position sensor? I called up Watertown Ford (in watertown, MA) and the guy didn't have a clue where to look for the part # for it... I'm still on the phone with him as i type too. Also anyone know how much those things run for on average so i can have something to compare it to. Thanks

Bruce,

The camshaft position sensor, a.k.a. the cylinder identification (CID) sensor, can be found as the following parts at the locations shown.

Wells F134, AutoZone/AZ.com $32.99
Motorcraft DU47, O'Reilly $40.99
Borg-Warner CSS29, O'Reilly $27.99

Installing it requires only removing the parts to allow access to the two, 5.5mm (7/32") bolts that secure the sensor to the rear bank exhaust camshaft's passenger side end. I believe that unclipping the DIS module, loosening the hose clamps and removing the two 12mm bolts that secure the intake balance tube to the intake can provide the needed clearance to the CID connector and the 5.5mm bolts. I didn't even need to do this on my car though. There is only one way to align the sensor and the job is quite simple.

Interpretation: "There may actually be one but we are too dumb and lazy to figure it out for you so we are just going to tell you there isn't so we can get rid of you and go back to sitting around and drinking our coffee"!

If the cam seal behind it is leaking there will be oil in there. If its not leaking and you simply change the sensor it will not start a leak. It is good practice to change the seal while your in there.

Replacing the CID sensor is trivial. Replacing the oil seal behind it is more than a few steps past a timing belt change.
