Well, while drivin' to a Dr. appointment today. The engine started surging in power. Similiar to what you'd expect to having dirty injectors. Then the engine light came on, and the sputtering got worse. LUCKY for me! I was driving past my parents house, and parked it in thier driveway. It will now be towed. I havn't heard anything to suggest it's the cams (the dreaded sewing machine noise).

Now it will be towed to a shop for diagnostics and repairs..sigh.

I know, I know...why havn't I had my cams welded. Too long of a story to explain, but I had reason, and have been making arrangements for a weld within' the next few weeks.

Hope today is your lucky day. I'm thinkn if it were the cams, you would still get some noise warning even if it was an "imminent" failure. Good luck. thumbs_u

just had a cam failure two weeks ago, my reason for not getting it done was simple. reading contradicting reports on multiple websites, didn't know what was best option. well now I know there is only one true option. get it done either way, but get it done. most of the failures I have heard about, there is really no doubt, the engine just fails. not all, but most

Been saying that all along. You pay more for tires and rims and they don't make the car last longer. Whatever solution you feel comfortable with either weld em; pin em; or lose em. It's cheap insurance, IMHO.
Where in Crystal Lake are you?? You know about SHOCAGO? Did you register your failure with the V8SHO Site to be included in the class action??

Kevin...

Randy's probably right... it's most likely a fried coil, which is more prevelent than cam sprockets spinning.

Yup. That's my diagnosis. Pull the battery cable and reset the computer and I'll bet the car will run like new (for a bit anyway).
