well good news, i heard from the shop owner today, he said he talked to the warranty company, and they are now looking for a second engine. the shop owner still stands by his timing chain failure story, but he is being very apologetic on the phone. so i think it was definately something he did. not sure what though, im going to try to take a trip up to the shop this week to take a look at the suspect chain, and also hopefully get a look at the cams he welded. wish me luck with this second, hopefully last, engine.

get a pic of the "welded" cams.....get a couple of nice close ups of the welds and the areas around the sprockets. 10 to 1 says he welded them AFTER they spun and then somehow broke a timing chain to cover his own ass...

ok, so some good news, and some explanation on the timing chain failure ( i think) good news is, the new (to me) engine arrived at the shop thursday night, the guy said he will have it in the car early next week. and about the timing chain failure it was the slave chain and the tensioner that went. i also learned that the engine that it failed on had been sitting for quite a while, and heard that when these engines sit for a while its quite possible for the tensioner to go bad, therefore resulting in a timing chain failure. not sure if that is true or not but it seems logical. anway she should be back on the road next week, i will be glad once this is all over. i am going to have the shop owner weld the cams again because he offered to do it for free since the last engine only lasted 2 days, i will however inspect the welds to make sure he did it right before he installs the engine again.

I've never seen or heard this in 4 years of working on these motors.

It's complete ********.

What goes bad when these motors sit is the rings can rust to the cylinder sleeve walls and crack when the motor is turned over.

This "shop" has no business working on your car nevermind welding your cams. Best of luck with them! :oogle:
