i wanted to see if there would be any point in me removing the stock air box from my sho and making a cai for my car

i know technically the airbox is a cai already but the guy that had the car before me drilled holes all over the bottom peice of the box now makin it into a wai lol

i do have a k&n in the air box right now and i took out the silencer pipe

i have no clue why the guy put the holes all over the box but he did it and now i gotta fix his mistakes.

Paul did you buy all those parts off of the internet, or a local supplier.

And is that just electrical tape wrapped around those silicon hoses?

Those hoses are all silicone except for the big 4" 90 which is a rubber drain plumbing connector. Silicone is the best for heat rejection. PVC would be better but once it gets hot it, stays hot. Metal is just not worth the effort as it will quickly heat up and negate the advantages.

Total cost for mine is around $200 just for parts and the 45 degree 3" to 3.5" hose is very difficult to find.

I don't know the brand of the filter other than it isn't a K&N, it came the with original SHO Shop HAI.

I've seen some synthetic filters out that don't need oil. This is what I would get if I did it again.

The tape is there to cover up a hole originally used for the IAT. I have since put on a new 90. And the silicone hoses all came off the internet somewhere. The place I got the 45 degree hose from no longer has them though.

The pvc will get hot unless insulated. Then even when sitting it will heat up. The difference is the heat transfer rate of pcv/metal compared to the silicone. The silicone too will get hot but is very slow to transfer the heat. This allows it to keep the intake air the coolest. Switching to the silicone made a significant difference over using rubber parts.

At one time I had pvc under the hood but it was worse than the OEM stuff.

Here's a pic of what I had before the silicone. It is better than pvc and metal. I used rubber connectors and some rubber /cotton flex hose. I used a 3" rubber connector, 4" flex hose and the 4" rubber 90. The filter is 4" btw.

I don't know. The stock location of the IAT is not where I have mine. I would assume the IAT readings from stock are not what is really entering the intake as it is in the air box. But don't really know.

This set up would usually give me temps around 5-10F of the ambient reading as seen on the EATC. With the silicone hoses the temp is usually 3-5F of ambient.
