Again, it was just put out there as an alternative to the JBL sub in the 96 (or any other Gen 3, they all have the cutout). I realize that this isn't considered a "real" subwoofer.
It is, however, the same size as the JBL, can get as low at 40hz as the cheap JBL, is much beefier and can handle more power. If crossed over at the same frequency it would be a good substitute for what's already there in a 96 or for a 97-99 owner that doesn't want to mess with a sub box and understands the limitations. If you don't want to be heard coming down the street but still want a little extra depth to your music it would be just fine. Consider it a stock JBL piece on steroids.
This isn't a thread for complaining "that's not a real sub" or for saying "my xx-inch in a BOX is soooo much better". Again, I was just pointing out an interesting find as an alternative, especially since pretty much nobody makes these anymore.
For myself I went with a 10" sub in a small sealed enclosure. Not too much boom, not too little, but just right in conjunction with the rest of the system which has also been upgraded.
If, however, the car in question was just a 2nd car, or for a significant other, child, parent, etc., you can bet I'd toss one of these in there, upgrade the front speakers and call it a day.
That's all this was intended for. If y'all want to start another thread about subwoofers and type of boxes, stereo upgrades, show off your systems, whatever, feel free. I was just trying to give an alternative to the stock JBL "sub".
