cable to rod shift changeover

im considering purchasing a spare tranny to sit in my garage if i need it. my question is i found a cable shift tranny for 200 but my car uses a rod shift. can i change the tranny itself to use a rod shift or if i buy a cable will i have to use the cable?

To use a cable tranny with a rod shifter, you have to remove the cable shifter bracket and tap the hole where you will bolt the rodshifter to it. Done and done.
