just another of my money saving brain farts .......

Bushings seem to cost alot of dough and i was wondering if there was a way to getthe dimensions for ALL the suspension bushings .If that was possible i could turn my own and some for the person that got me this info .

thing is , i work as maint. @ a press shop :thumb: and I can get my hands on all kinds of nylon ( its white , and got some big chemical name ? ) would it be a good idea to use that stuff , it is very hard , i can't inprint it with my finger nail .

I have a fairly good knowlage of metal types and hardness ( M2 , A2 , D2 ) but the plastics and polys , i'm a rookie

so fill me in ........

UHMW? (Ultra High Molecular Weight) What your thinking of? Its just about to hard for most bushings. All you would get is a lot of noise. Some people made Sub frame bushings out of it or derlin. Its has a reputation to crack in that use too though.

You are going to want to stick to polyurethane or thermoplastic rubber (TPR). Hardness is not the only characteristic you want to watch when working with plastics in these applications, creep plays a big deal also. Most unreinforced Nylons (6/6 6/12) will permanently deform when placed in compressions overtime. They will actually very slowly flow out from underneath the load making the mechanical connection lose. You want a plastic with a Shore rating of 80A or so and as low a compression set % as possible.

Thats great .....

I 'll talk to to guy @ the plastic dealer this week , U say i'm lookin for a plastic with as low of a compersion rate as possible ? and a "shore rating of 80a " what is a shore rating and what does 80a stand for .

I'm pretty sure i can get any kind of plastic from this dealer .

OK , we have got the material covered ........Is there any way to find the dimensions of these bushings , besides takin them off and measuring them . That info wil prob. be no good ,cause my bushings will most likley deformed and not to size .

So my quest conntines ........

I forgot the washers , how often do u find the washers are bad ? I really can't imagine that they would deform ..... So y replace em

The Shore rating is the hardness, like the Rockwell rating for metal. The "A" part is the scale. There are several scales but "A" and "D" are used the most. The A scale of for softer materials; a Shore rating of 80A is equal to a Shore rating of 29D.
