I wouldn't do that. There should be tonnes of used shifter cables around. And you could also upgrade to a rod shifter for around 150 dollars for a used one.

Well they said the cable was roughly $200 or so, the rest is labor. What advantages does the rod shifter have over the cable?

No more broken cables, shorter shifter, better feel to the shifts. To name a few. Will only take about 1 hour or so to install.

Defiantly you could do it at home with tools and some know how. Try a search on this it should come up with some better answers than i can give you.

It also depends where the cable broke. They have a tendency to pop off at the transmission linkage. Some of us just wire tie it back into place. I also wrapped some hard wire around it, shifting fine for the last 2 years.

thats the route i went, my linkage popped off last week, i wrapped some 19 gauge wire around it and its been fine, but if the linkage broke, definitely look for a rod shifter
