The button you push on on the gear shift **** on my 93 ATX flew out of the side of the shift **** one night this winter. Out came the button to release the transmission from park. A long spring came out with it. Wouldn't go back in and lock, but I put it back together and kept the button in place with some masking tape. The tape would keep the button from flying out and I could push it in ok to shift the ATX.

Does anyone know if you can buy just the button? I went to a decent non-ford transmission shop and they thought I would need the whole shifter including the shift column that comes up through the console, the shift **** with a good button, the OD off button, etc.

Comments before I buy the whole shifter?

Reviving this as this just happened on my 93... I have it in w/o the spring and it is not flying out at least, looks like a clip held it in place, but my 19yo was the driver and who knows if that flew out and got lost.. He took a couple days to tell me the button came loose...
Any suggestions on this?

When I purchased my 1994 ATX the shifter also had the button taped on. I ended up buying the entire shifter assembly off a member. I'm no mechanic and I was able to replace the entire shifter assembly in about an hour. Just be sure you remember what gear the shifter was in before you put the new one on.

Good luck.
