I know what it sounds like to have a loose pulley, or have a pully touch the engine...
My SHO used to do that every time I'd make a U-turn... then it got more consistent and now
does it everytime I turn the wheel... I opened up the hood and told my friend to turn the wheel
left and right, and it looked to me like the whole engine was rotating... that would explain the
screeching of the pulleys... do you think I could've broken my engine mounts? sorry SDPatt, if
descriptions are too immature for you wink I'm trying!

Busted engine mounts are not fun...Ive helped my buddy SnickterP out with some problems he's had with his, and the way you can tell if the mount is actually broken is if the engine starts to twist when put under a load. What you can do is open up/take off the hood, put it in drive/1st and then watch the engine. If the front raises up more than say...an inch (probably less)...your mount is more than likely not doing its job.

Actually your ailment sounds more like shot subframe bushings. Your steering would be more adversely affected by these than they would be your motor mounts.

I have the same problem with the squeeks. Sorry about the off topicdness (not a word, I know) but does it also happen when you say ley the clutch in and out? Just wondering.

About the motor mount... Just raise the hood, put the ebrake on and put the dar in drive and slowly put the gas on (or in first with a standard car) just enough to see if the engine is moving a great deal or not. If you have a buddy, then he/she may be able to see if the engine is moving or not, just make sure that the helper is off to the side of the car, just incase your foot slips and mashes the gas at the same time that the e-brake gives way. Sorry, just had to mention that.
