Hi,

I am seeking a new set of these wonderful tires. Anyone know of a source for them? I know they are a discontinued model, just hoping a shop somewhere has a set around in 225/55/16.

Thanks

I bought a set of Bridgestone S-O2 tires in the 225/55-16 size from Tire Rack on a clearance at $125 each, but that was back in September of 1998. Excellent tires. I have not seen the 225/55-16 size listed on the Tire Rack site since the end of that clearance sale. There may be some around, but they do not show to be stocked at even the large warehouses of the Tire Rack.

Thanks,

Something tells me I am not going to find them anymore...oh well, damn great tires those S02's

Anyone got advise on whats a good performing tire that lasts a while and has good wet grip? (and doesnt cost a fortune)

I have a 94 SHO MTX pretty tricked out, Engine has maybe 40-60HP more than stock, suspension is tight...tokico's/eibach/HP-bushings/sway bars/frame stiffeners..the works. Its my daily driver.

Thanks !!

Again...thanks.

I'll look for 730's...I see 750's thus far. I've been out of the "tire" loop for a while so I dont know whats good for a SHO. Any further advice appreciate. My concern is good wet weather grip and decent wear.

Good luck with your 93. I had a 89 MTX some years ago that I bought and then discovered was a mess and a money pit, sold it and then thought I would take a chance on the pristine 94 I now have. After recently having an older Lotus Turbo Esprit I now know what a "true" money pit is and my new SHO is such a joy. I think I would pass on the Tokico's next time tho and go Koni adjustable, the Tokicos are quite STIFF for a daily driver.

cheers,

k

if i'm not mistaken, the 750's recently replaced the 730's, and i understand the S0-3 is a rather good tire as well.

did scott get some new wheels?

Take a look at these: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+GS-D3

The price is reasonable and they are suppose to be oustanding in the wet and dry. I bought a set but havn't had a chance to really try them out yet since it's just turning spring time here.

But I can say with certainty that if you see more than 3 snowflakes come down, get off the road! I backed my car out of my garage onto the snow covered driveway and it wouldn't go any further. My dad had to pull it into the storage shed with his 4x4...lol laugh_ti

Thats funny...I know the feeling. I've been driving my SHO around with the S02's on it in this years snow, makes for some interesting events. I'm a Vermonter so its actually some fun for me.

I'll look at the options between the Bridgestones and the Goodyears..thanks a ton.

cheers

The SO2s were outstanding tires for wet and dry traction. They were the narrowest 225/55-16 tires I have mounted on my 7.5" wide rims and looked to be only modestly larger than the stock size tire. The appearance did not adversely affect the performance and they stuck great and provided 30,000 miles of hard street use.

I have been a big Bridgestone fan ever since rolling on those wonderful tires. I am currently running on my second consecutive set of the RE730. These provide me excellent dry traction and very good wet traction and have been good street and track donuts. The RE730 has been superceded by the RE750 and I consider those to be the first choice for a replacement when the time for new tires rolls around.

New wheels? You talkin' to me? I have 7.5" wide, Freedom Design 2005 wheels that were "new" on my car in May of 1997. The 35mm offset required some rear fender lip trimming (see bottom image) and allows the 225/55-16 tires to fill out every available bit of space in the wheel wells. These discontinued, German made wheels look identical to the Moda R1 that is currently available.

After looking for over a year a finally found a set of new 245/45-17 Bridgestone S-02 PP tires from a warehouse somewhere in the Mid West that specializes in discontinued Bridgestone tires. I went though a dealer that got them for me. E-mail me off line and I will past the info on to you.

I love these tires. IMNSHO they are much better than the S-03 tires. They are/were the closest thing to a DOT approved track tire out there. Plus they are much better in the wet than the BFG gforce KD tires can ever dream of being. Too bad that are gone, all because of some whiny customers complained that they got too noisy when warn down. Right !

I will get off my soap box now, thank you.

BTW, the Bridgestone S-02 PP were stock on a Honda S2000 up though 2003. The TireRack still stocks them in the rear 225/50-16 size. I know that these are shorter, smaller and have a light load rating than the 225/55-16 size. But several folks run this size due to the better gearing effect, especially if you run autocross events. Just something else to keep in mind.
