Brand new sho owner

I am a brand new SHO owner and you guys will probably not like me too much. I have always liked these off the wall Ford produced performance cars and actually own a Thunderbird SC. But I just purchased an 89 SHO for 250 dollars to compete in the 24 Hour or Lemon's Race coming up in May in Reno. Me and a Team of 5 guys are going to be racing the car and I'm sure we will need much help along the way. I see a lot of guys on here that seem to like to help other people out so hopefully you guys won't be insulted that I bought one of these cars for a race of "lemons" but I purchased it because I think it's a great car that has a lot of potential.

I am going to be posting pics of the progress of the car, cage installation, and unfortunately butchering to make the car ready for this race.

Thanks and look forward to getting to know some of you during my stay. BTW this will be our car forever there are many different races that can be participated in and we plan on keeping and campaigning the SHO for many years.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Right now there is nothing done to the car it seems to be running a bit crappy but I'm sure it's minor or I hope that is.

I can hopefully help some people out with parts as we are going to be gutting the car of unneccessary parts I'm sure some people can use some of the stuff on here.

I have very crappy pictures of it right now.

My friends and I are drag racer so we are going with a drag race theme on the car I got bored on MS Paint one night and made this.

So my first question would be what are some major problems to look for on my car?? I'm going to weld those pins in the diff I already found that out. Anything else I should know off the bat??

1.Just replace the rod bearings.
2.Do your valve adjustment.
3. Spark plug well seals go bad and then you get oil in the wells and it will miss.

Personally if I was going to run it that hard for that long, I would do a full 60K maintnance to it IE: new water pump, new timing belt, crank postition sensor, cam postition sensor, cam seals, new thermastat, new belts, new hose, new spark plug well seals, new valve cover seals, front main seal, new plug wires.

Weld the diff like you said, get a revised addition tob, new clutch, rear main seal.

Adds up, but if you want the car to run that hard I'd deff do at least that.

When you buy an aftermarket clutch kit does it come with the revised throw out bearing or give you a factory style one??

The race is May 23-24th hopefully we get in the application is in but they don't let you know until March 6th I believe.

if your going to be in the heat and running her wide open i would put a lower temp thermostat and a dual core radiator that way you dont have to worry about overheating i have one in mine and i can set the cruise at 130 and sit back and it does not go over half way on temp check out rcmautomotive.com they got some nice things for great prices
