i just put a stage 1 clutch in and got the engine and tranny dropped in. i was anxious to feel how stiff my new clutch was, and to my surprise, the pedal is extremely light. the cable is engaged in the fork of the tranny and it is pulling. i put a new ShoNUT performance TOB in and also ceramic impregnated bushings. what would cause my new clutch to feel lighter than my old one. also, i have not gotten the car running yet. please help

The stage 1 clutch in my SHO felt lighter than a stock clutch. Depending how they modifiy the pressure plate, they can make the pedal lighter. If you're looking for a stiff clutch, go with the stage 3. It's very stiff, but still driveable.

most clutchs feel light when they are new, give it a few hundred miles and it should get a little more firm.
make sure you give the proper "break in" period.

Mine felt the same after 10k miles. I also had a SHO with a stock clutch and it felt heavy compared to the stage 1. I'd be more inclined to say the clutch will get lighter as the spring and pivot point wear.

Just installed CM Stage 1, and the pedal is very light indeed, which from what I've been reading is normal with their clutches. The engagement point is much higher as well.

as in the pedal has to be further up in its travel before it starts to engage.

i haven't driven the car yet but im starting to like the idea of a lighter clutch. i cant tell what makes the difference(bushings, new TOB, new clutch) but the whole thing is smooth as silk. im just glad to hear its normal for this clutch.

The good TOB and the ceramic bushings do make a big difference. You'll not regret putting those in.

I got a car currently with a REAL light pedal  You'd really love itBellhousing

I always try to polish the TOB shaft really well, and use new bushings with a SHO clutch. That and it's just from the plate geometry from having a full thickness disc that it's light. It'll get stiffer as the disc wears.

Once the CMI clutch is broken in and you get used to the lighter feel, you're gonna love it. :thumb:

Mark, just for reference, here's what it looked like when it happened to me...

Strap damage

...although I'm curious to see whether yours is a strap or something else.

Can someone explain why a clutch might engage higher that stock?

I figured it would self adjust itself to engage at the same (general) position as whatever came out.

I have a stage 1 from Mikey's 'ol store and it has always seemed to engage about 2 inches higher than the OE clutch in Bluie.

I know about the tob, but what are the ceramic impregnated bushings? Are they the fork bushings?

Yes. The stock ones are, I think, nylon. Josh makes a ceramic-impregnated aluminum replacement that is the shizzle. Very nice.
