Anyone else have grooves on the rear brake discs? 5000 miles and grooved like 50k... I noticed this the other day when I investigated a loud squeal coming from brakes as I stopped and then took off again. Sounded like brakes partially engaged. Had to back up and then go forward in order to get it to release

I think there might actually be a TSB on that issue. For some reason I think I might have saw that. I'll check.

9-26-10 is the service bulletin out for rear brake drag/noise. Take it to your dealer

So they should fix the issue, replace discs and pads? How do I know if they replace pads with the "Performance" pads that I supposedly have?

I would definitely mention that you have the 12S option when you drop off the car for service. Check the work order parts list when you pick up the car and review it with the service rep. Other than that, physically checking the pads after service.

the mustang i traded my sho in for had the same problem on the drivers side front rotor. 700 miles and the rotor is anything but smooth.

it's "normal" is what my tech buddy that helped me do the suspension said

No, there is nothing normal about it.. My sho, in its lifetime has been in the shop 3 times for a sticky rear caliper. I have all the records of it from 96 up. AND NOW the rear drivers caliper is sticking AGAIN!

Interesting topic:

In roughly 1300 miles, I have experienced maybe a dozen incidences of what I will call a slight brake "twitch" where the vehicle seems to pull to the left just a bit when I first apply the brakes.

Seems to happen mostly in the morning, just after getting the car out of the garage. Once everything is warmed up, doesn't happen again.

I am certainly no expert on brakes, but I do know that on two Navigators and my former Lightning, Ford had to replace the rotors and some other stuff at under 5,000 miles due to warpage.

Any experts out there to comment on this?????????

You should try bleeding them? Maybe some air in one line causing that one to take a millisecond longer to actually get some good pressure after compressing the air.

The first generation SHO's had a metal mounting attachment that went all the way around the outside of the flex hoses at the rear. As this metal thing rusted, it choked off the flex line and would not let the fluid return once it was forced into the caliper.
It is a little early for that problem.

Overall, probably 99% of ther claims of "rotor warpage" are not valid. It is due to uneven pad deposits.

If there is a groove in the rotor, either the pad is going bad, or there is something lodged in the pad.

Personally, I would never take a brake issue like this to a dealer unless it was under 1K miles with pussay driving. I would just get better pads and fluid and move on. But then, I'm tougher on these parts than most folks.
