my brakes just started doing this about a week ago, so here it goes.

when i put the brakes down the first time u can almost sink it to the floor before major stoppage happens, but if u let off and push back down its rock hard and stops nicley about 1/8 of the way down. my antilock brake warning light is on, but its been on forever and my mechanic didnt find anything wrong. anyone knows whats wrong? some kind of valve?

Could be the master cylinder failing, or it could be air in the system. First thing I'd do is try bleeding the brakes and see if that rectifies the problem.

when u dont have the radio on, u can hear a whooshing type sound coming from the brakes the first time u push it down. ill try bleeding this weekend, what is the order to properly bleed? it stays rock hard at the stoplight when im on the brake. that change anything?

Could be a booster problem if it's noticibly loud. RR, LF, LR, RF is the correct bleeding order. Give it a good bleeding and let us know how it turns out.
