I need a good set of pads for the front of my SHO, I have the 96 brake upgrade kit. I have Hawk FPS in there now and I will never use those again.

I have always used the OEM Ford pads that came on the '96+ SHO's.

It is p/n: XF3Z-2001-CB.

You must make sure it is the OEM Ford part, as the Motorcraft equivalent is not the same and is not that good.

I use these pads on my SHO, my SLO (with the SHO upgrade), on my Mark VIII, and on my parent's '01 SLO. They are great!

x2 The motorcraft are garbage, I ripped them off within a week. One hard stop or any spirited driving they were smoking and faded so easy!

Good question.
I have never figured out why they have organic, ceramic, semi-metallic and the list goes on ..... all for the same model.
And with inventory sell - off pricing, you can't go by price alone.
From my last experience with pads on my 95, I no longer put long life at the top of my list, as half my sliders were seized due to the long period of inattention.
I look for professional grade and up, and a deal. And I now plan on changing them more often.

Do you mean HPS? What didn't you like about them. I have a set I'm going to try.

Yeah I meant HPS, they are very noisey and they killed my rotors. After one year there a lot of grooves in my rotors which now are squeeling pretty pad. I had decent rotors too.

It sucks because there is alot of meat left on the pad but I can't deal with the noise.

On my 94 I had brembo cross drilled rotors and Ford Super Duty pads and I loved that combination.

You can try Akebono Ceramic pads. They don't bite as hard as the HPS, but they dust about 5% as much, and they make no noise. They're quite easy on rotors as well, and bite well enough when you get past the initial bite.

I have used Performance Friction carbon metallic pads on both my stock and PBR calipers. They have been gentle on the rotors and performed excellent.

I've used these too. Great pads, and didn't really notice any fading.

I switched to the OEM Ford ones because they performed the same as the PFCM ones with a fraction of the dust that the PFCM's produced.

The Ford OEM ones are semi-metallic, but the PFCM are cheaper (Autozone), IIRC.

What do you want them to do? Just street driving? Street and track?

The Ford OEM pads are actually quite good for what they are. Most modern compounds are pretty good (I think HPS is getting a bit long in the tooth, actually).

I go to the track once or twice a year so I am going to try Ford OEM pads and see how they work.

x3 on those PFCM pads... $60-70 a set at AZ.... I used new rotors, and was careful about bedding my pads, and to be honest, after 20,000 miles, I can't tell by looking at the pads that they've worn down at all.

Do the PFCM pads have a good bite to them? I was thinking about picking up a set for my explorer...regular duralast pads are...meh at best.

X2 I have these combined with cryostop rotors and they are great.

I had a set of PFCM on my stock cyro treated rotors. They worked very well. Installed the rotors and new PFCM on my bro's SHO when I upgraded to my Baer Racing. PFCM pads were developed for NY taxi use.

When I was working for NAPA they came out with a "hybrid" cermaic pad that all of the customers we sold them to really liked. They are ADO or Adaptive One brake pads. They are the most expensive choice, but you get what you pay for (in most cases). No noise, minimal brake dust, and a Long life.

I actually heard those were really good. Anyways I think I am going to go with the OEM Ford ones.

i liked the PFCM pads A LOT

I also like the OEM Ford pads I have now on a different car. I'd really have to put them side by side to see which has better performance when the speeds get high. But they are both awesome.

I have installed some Wagner Thermoquiet pads in the 598 size on a few customer cars and they also stopped great with decent intial bite for a ceramic pad! These are just with me test driving it after the job for a few minutes though, I haven't had to live with them for years so I'm no expert on how the pads shape up in the long run. We use them on customer cars almost exclusively without complaints

I have a set of Hawk HPS I'm going to try next
