Bought new tires

I broke down and bought new tires. My tread was under 30% and I need new plate tags this month, I also had 2 leaky tires going under 30 psi every other day. For a while I had a hard time deciding on what tires to buy. I have the non performance pack with the 19 inch wheels and well there are not too many tires available. I called around and every tire shop said my factory Goodyear Eagle RSA's are junk and I should only get about 30K out of them, well I made it to 52,500. I bought Contiental ProContact DSW 255/50R19 the original were 255/45R19. The ride is much smoother and I am averaging 32 mpg on the highway with them,

According to my TireRack contact, the RS-A's are a good $50. tire... Unfortuantely they cost 3 times that!

I only use mine for winter trips from Naples to IA... Wish I could sell them... but no one wants.

RSAs are the tire that won't go away, along with the Bridgestone RE92s that mfrs still use.

Only good thing is that they keep the rims off the pavement.

Thumbs up for the Conti DSWs. Easily the best and most reliable tire I have had yet on the car.

The RSAs were atrocious tires that came on my father's '95 Lumina LS. Car had the 3.4 DOHC and was quick, but couldn't handle until they were ditched...

I am currently running the Conti Extreme's and so far I love them. Have yet to feel like it was about to loose grip.

I remember my 1995 Cobra and 1997 SHO had these from the factory. Hard as **** and junk.

I can understand why Ford & GM used them, though (IIRC, GTPs had them also). They were Z-rated a/s tires, and they were relatively lightweight.

They were OK until they were about 50% worn, then they got hard & noisy.

The trip computer is going to be off because the different tire size will cause the speedo and odometer to be off, so be careful.

**** the RSA's for the G8 GXP were hard & noisy from the get go. I thought they were run flats when I took the first test drive. Surprisingly they are capable of 1.9x 60fts.

The RS-As are also about half the price of all the other 255-45 19s on tirerack, They have them at $165 apiece, and I think the closest to that was $235 apiece.

And they're still not worth it.........

Boy, there's a lotta "blah" tires in that size, lotsa SUV and "touring". Same with the 225/50/19, although there's more choices, with some nice tires, in the 255/50/19 size.

For someone in Taxas, I would stay with a good Summer tire that will work better in the dry & the wet than about any a/s.

Oh, I'm not looking - I just got this car! Just got curious when I saw this thread. You can drop some serious cash getting a Gen IV SHO reshod. Most of the decent alternatives seemed to be up in the ~$400 apiece range. I agree with the reco for summer tires in TX though - not a lot of snow and ice down here, and if there is a sprinkle - everyone takes a Snow Day! I lived in MI for 5yrs hard up against Lake MI in the snow belt, and didn't get one lousy day off for weather.

Yes, these tires are a huge improvement, they cut right through water, they are very smooth & quiet. I love the look of the 50 series tire on my SHO instead of that skinny looking 45 series. I am driving 300 miles a day for work and am very happy to have put these tires on when I did! I wouldn't take a set of those RSA's for free they are the crappiest tire I have even owned to date.
