I think I have blown my stock 6.5" subwoofer in my 94' SHO. This really sucks. Like it doesn't pound it makes this weird clapping sound. Where might I go to replace this sub or is there any way to fix it?

I appreciate the help.

Don't buy a 6.5 sub from etronics, all they have is pyramid and pyle, aka junk. If you are going to replace it, get an 8 inch sub that will work in a .35 cubic foot enclosure.

yea it will cause i tried to put a ten in the stock one, but i kinda cut the hole to big, and the sub didnt fit, but a guy here has done it and he said it sounded good. but an 8 would sound good imo. you just have to break the bottom holders in the box for it to clear. :thumb:

Stock subs don't POUND, they add some bass maybe a little feel. After all it's just a factory system, only like and 85watt sub.

Might I also recommend a JL 6.5" sub. It drops right in and sounds 10x better than the stock sub. Plus, the factory amp has ample power to run it nicely. you might have to remove the baffle between the box and the package shelf, but otherwise, nothing else.

On a side note, I've been told the factory sub enclosure is a tad too big for the JL. Something I'm eventually gonna do is dump some Bondo in the box to reduce airspace to the recommended airspace. I'll let y'all know how it went.

Why dump bondo in the box? If you ever want to upgrade and keep the factory box then you have to deal with getting that all out, plus it'd have to be real smooth not all wavy otherwise sound will just reflect off it wrong. Personally I think dropping some insulation in there would be just fine

The bondo wouldn't have to be smooth, especialy in a sealed box, and adding insulation has the exact opposite effect, it makes the woofer think it is in a bigger box. Looks like someone needs to do some more research :D

Insulation holds in sound? So how exactly would that make the woofer think it's in a bigger box. Usually you get more response from an insulated box because more room is taken up by insulation.......

The insullation slows the backwave down, making the speaker think that there is more airspace behind it. You typically get more response out of larger boxes, and less out of smaller. This is why if you want a sub to play deep you put it in the largest recomended sealed box, and if you want it to be punchy, you reduce the volume. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you really don't know what you are talking about and it is obvious.

I'm not too much of an audiophile, huh thanks for the info. But still there has to be a better way of bondoing a box, like I said bondo isn't fun to get out, thats if you ever need the box bigger....

There are other ways, but most of them are pretty permanent. One way or another you need to put something inside the box to take up the volume, and come to think of it, bondo is probably the easiest way. In any case, it's not like it's hard to come by a stock JBL sub enclosure if you ever needed more volume.
