Blown engine need help

So my turbos and engine are toast and need to find a replacement engine with turbos. A couple of questions:
1) will the 2013+ sho engines not fit because ebay says they won't?
And 2) where can I find a good used engine with turbos?
Anyone total their car recently but engine survived? If so hit me up

2013+ engine will fit 2010-12, some sensors have to be carried over, may be a couple of minor fitment issues. Believe RandR10 had posted his experiences and observations on this.

Car-part.com is a good place to start looking. LKQ may have options, and then there is eBay.

What eBay says will fit and will not fit is basically worthless, regardless of the vehicle(s) in question. Following their "fit" guidelines is dangerous.

There are some things that will need to be transferred from the "old" engine to the 13+, but it can be done, as SHOdded says.

water pump broke, shot coolant into my engine, total engine failure including turbos!

Yeah I heard afterwards that every 60k u should change your water pump because if it goes out it will blow coolant into the crankcase which will fry your engine like mine. Wish I knew that before

Ya, it is a sorry state of affairs. The fluid life is WAY oversold. 1st coolant change around 100K then every 50k thereafter. Tells me change it every 50-60K from the getgo. At least no power steering fluid to worry about

Unfortunate design with the water pump being driven by the timing chain, and behind the front cover. Makes it an expensive proposition to change no matter what. In theory, there's a path for the water pump to weep coolant when it starts to leak. In real life, it doesn't work out that way and coolant ends up inside the engine and destroys it.

My guess is that 90% last over 100k. Yours went 170k. Really, you can change the water pump without dropping the subframe. Takes a little finesse to get the cover off but I have seen it done on youtube. Might make sense to just replace at 100k intervals.

- Not sure if you saw but he posted on another thread, guess the engine was not actually damaged, he fixed it, then the turbo went, so he wants to sale it for parts, that's all I know. I think I saw the same video, but it was only about 2min and not really that helpful. I was curious so I priced a water pump replacement awhile back, the book says about $2200. That is a whole lot of money for what is basically maintenance. I can do some basic stuff but on this car that seems past my ability for auto repair. Huge downside of these cars really expensive to maintain.

- You know that would not even bother me if it held its value, but at a certain point it cost all most as much to fix it as it does to buy another running car. I guess that's why the guy gave up on his.

I have yet to replace the waterpump on my SHO but I have read through the WSM and it honestly doesn't seem too complex. Obviously since you're removing the timing chain and messing around there you need to be careful and pay attention to the details. But essentially it's removing stuff to get access to the front cover, remove the cover, and then remove timing chain to get to the water pump. The only thing that makes this even remotely difficult is the lack of room with the engine inside the car.

Last weekend I showed my little brother how to replace his water pump on his 93 Camry. Like the SHO, it is also run off the timing belt on a transfers mounted engine. Like what I've read on the SHO, it's just the process or removing things to get them out of the way and then getting to the timing belt. I would say replacing the rear turbo is a harder process to do in the average Joe's garage than changing the water pump. As long as you can remove stuff and label it (so you know where to put it when assembling) and align timing marks you should be able to tackle this with enough time. If I was doing this I would expect to have the car down for 2-4 working days in the garage.

You make some very good points and when it comes down to it none of this is rocket science BUT couple of points.

-Some people have lots of natural mechanical ability and things like this come easy to them, or they are well trained and experienced so things come easier to them. Since you are a engineer I will assume you are one or both.
-As for me I spent most of my working life on the water, to take a ship or boat from Portsmouth Va to Key West Florida is relatively easy. I could also write down the instructions for you to follow and you would be able to get there yourself. I am well trained and I have have a certain amount of "Natural Ability". What I can not do is tell you with any certainty at what point its safer to turn around when you get off the coast of Cape Hatteras and the weather turns bad (It's always bumpy off Hatteras).
- Lastly for me there are a lot of things I could do, so for me paying a mechanic is like buying insurance, I pay not for what is done but what could go wrong while it is being done. So I will hope my water pump does not go bad and will pay someone a lot of money to fix it if it does.

Yes, I saw his other post. Personally, I would shy away from an engine that got coolant mixed in with the oil. Issues down the road probable.

I suppose that scenario is POSSIBLE ... thinking hard ... LOL!
