Could my multifunction switch cause my blinkers to quit working? First, they would work when they wanted to and now I have to work the manually.

questions. does left or right flashers light up when you put stalk up or down? do they flash or just stay lit? does steering wheel cancel blinkers like it should? does the emergency flasher still work as it should? [stupid question] are all the bulbs good?

Yes, the bulbs stay lit but don't blink when I push the lever down. No, my emergency flashers don't work. The bulbs are good, thats the first thing I checked. I don't know where the relay is or the thing that makes the lights blink. I don't know much about it and I can't get my car inspected till I get it fixed.

sounds like the flasher relay. this is an often fail part and is located on the fuse panel in most fords [round, gold dollar diameter, about 1 inch thick, alumiun color] most good auto part stores would be happy to pop it in for you if you ask right if you can't find it. location should be in owners manual if you still have one.

I agree with the flasher relay is bad. My 93 ATX had it mounted with a screw to a metal piece under the dash a few inches from the fusebox

There is a round thing in the fuse box I guess that is it? Someone told me to pry out the dimmer and auto lamp panel and that it was behind that. Does that sound right?

I hate to chime in with another vague direction, but there are two flasher units. One is heavy duty(usually alluminum) its round.

And there is another flasher unit for the directionals, and it is usually lt blue and made of plastic.

Sounds like you need to change the lt blue one.

I have a similar problem with my 95 SHO with the blinker situation. My right blinker clicks like it needs to be replaced all the time. Sometimes, if I push it in a certain way, it will blink normally, and sometimes it will blink normally for a second then go nuts. I have replaced all the blinkers and this hasn't fixed the problem, so it must be deeper. Any ideas on what could be causing this annoyance?

Lara-where in Tx are you at? I might be able to get you some help locally.. cheers

I have a 95 mtx. There is not a round thing in the fuse box like I thought there was. I'm in Borger, by Amarillo. Should I pry out the dimmer panel and see?

I checked out my 95, the flasher/relay is mounted above the fuse panel under the dash, not exactly easy to get to. mine was a black box with 3 wires runing to it: a black, red w/white stripe, and a light blue wire.
This is what clicks when the turn signals or flashers are on, and hopefully it's your problem.
If replacing it doesn't solve your issues, then most likely it's your multifunction switch.
Too bad your not much closer to Houston, Sergio could fix you up in no time flat.

You are low on blinker fluid.

seriously...look at swapping out the flasher first before you buy a new multifunction switch. flashers are cheap and easy to replace. YOu can ind it's location in the owners manual or at the fuse panel.

Where might this multifunction switch be located on a 95 ATX?

It's the turn signal stalk.
it mounts to the steering column with two screws.

1st time here!

I'm wondering if I have the same problem as blizzy. I have a 95 atx, and for the past week, the turn signals have been weirding out.

First I'd get the rapid clicking on the right side, and my right rear flashers wouldn't work, nor right brake light. This would be highly sensitve to bumps/acceleration etc ... abruptly it might get better, then in a few minutes flake out again.

Now it has settled to the *left* rear turn signal and brake light don't work (rapid clicking), and the right works fine; been this way for 2 days. I haven't replaced the bulb yet but think it might be the same prob blizzy has.

thanks!

Rich in Northern CA.

Rich,
Confirm that all your bulbs are good first..THEN look into the stalk problem. It will save you quite a bit of track down headaches... thumbup
