The second tranny in my 93, (140000) is now spent. The car has been fully re-painted, and all potential rust taken care of less than 5000 miles ago. Could I reasonably replace with an MTX. Would it be worth the effort. By the way, this is a second car.

There are a few swaps that have been completed, i know of one, and it took HELLA long to complete the swap and it was not easy, you must do alot of custom fabrication, and need an mtx car for all the parts, so you really have to know what you're doing and would be better off just buyin an MTX car, go to alfitz.com as he is cataloging this

I figure that its going to be quite a labor. But I have a whole winter of no other projects. I work at an autobody shop, so the fabrication needs are there. Has anyone here had experiance with this? Is it feasable to do this project for under two grand, with probably 4 months worth of lay up.

2500 +parts? You can buy a whole MTX car for that...

Find a decent MTX, part out your ATX car, or swap in the better parts, get rid of the rest. Much more cost effective.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

I think you need to find someone to do the job right. I've been driving on my rebuilt tranny for 3 years now without any problems and many others have gotten rebuilds that last, even under severe abuse.

Take a look at www.fordspecialists.com. They are a little pricey, but it's the last transmission you will ever have to install.

The ATX/MTX swap is just that. You have to swap EVERYTHING in the engine compartment from an MTX over to the ATX car. You can use some of the ATX components such as the 3.2 block, but you will also have to swap out the wiring harness.

You need to buy a donor car which you can strip.

Do a search.

It is a great deal of wrenching, but if you have the time, it is just basic taking out of one car and bolting up to the other car. There is no fabrication and the modifications are cutting a hole on the floor of the unibody to fit the shifter.

It is definitely easier to buy a mint MTX.
