Well it's only been a year and a half since the last alternator, at least this time I was able to save the battery. Coming home from Findlay, Ohio at night and I noticed the dash lights and instrument cluster wrere really dim, then the tach started going nuts and finally shut off, then the radio, then I was one intersection from Wal-Mart stopped at a red light tempted to run it just so I didn't die in the middle of the road, and of course a sheriff rolls up beside me, luckily I had enough juice in the battery to coast into the Wal-Mart parking lot and wait for a tow truck. Man do I love remanufactured parts. Anyways, just wanted to vent...

no big thing

I pulled mine and I can assure everyone, the Honda Accord we used to own was the worst. You needed to split the front suspension and pull the axle in order to drop the alt out. I replaced it three times. The typical life span of the reman units was 18 months. The last time it went out was it....I sold the car.
I have found that I can leisurely pull the SHO alt in @ 45min.

I changed my alternator 5 times in a week last summer. I found out the problem was some wires on the transmission were rubbing on it and got exposed.

Sounds like you guys have it worse than me. I forgot to add in that right before I bought the car it had the alternator replaced and that one only lasted about a year. So my car is on it's third now...oh well...

I just put a heat shield around mine seeing as it sits so close to the rear exhaust downpipe.

Replaced mine once, under warranty, at about 3 years old. No problems since, so it is getting due. Of course, it was replaced with one of those ***** old Ford parts, so who knows?... ;)
