Blackstone oil report.

Sent in a sample with my average oil change interval. Glad I never slack because apparently any more fuel in there and it would be getting ugly. While it always smells like fuel I did notice this change was particularly thin. I'm wondering if in the summer months I could run something a tad thicker.

I just sent mine in last week 12k miles 200 hrs :s let's see what they say using 20k mobil one I hope it actually works

Mine always smells like fuel at 3k miles as well. I notice with my Castrol Edge it remains cleaner/less black then the Mobil 1 at the same interval.

Almost entirely highway. My work commute is 70 miles round trip mostly with a speed limit that is 70 so... mostly 80+ MPH. Maybe a good pull here and there. So yeah, I’d say fairly severe. Still pretty chilly here too so warm ups as well but not more than a couple minutes.

well that is a big breakdown in flashpoint for that type of driving, IMHO. when was the last time you pulled plugs? only worried about a possible leaky injector.

No I appreciate your opinion. That’s why I put it up. But man, don’t say that. Haha. I just helped my brother in law change one on his 3.5 ecoboost F150. Plugs now have 16k on them. I have been planning to yank a couple to get a look at them. Probably at least 1 and 4 huh? I do have a fresh set on the shelf incase I don’t like what I see.

I think I'd rather see no iron so I'll try for 10k this time I actually didn't know I had gone that long till I started looking at the milage recorded during the winter I always warm it up for at least 15 minutes I think that is why I have less fuel dilution View attachment 16 TAURUS-200328.pdf

Mobil1 flashpoint is generally strong. The type of driving determines whether there is cause for concern or not. At that mileage (10k really), seeing iron in the mid to high twenties on sho's is pretty common, so i am not seeing issues there. Tbn, fuel, K, Na, insolubles, silicon, etc all good.

My concern really is the lead and the chromium. Hopefully one off, may be due to additives in use etc. Still low level but worth watching. Maybe the filter just was out of capacity, IDK. I def would not go that long on the fl500s filter. 5000-7500 MAX even if all highway. Suggest purolator boss for best filtering. Has shown excellent results in extended use.

I'm using the mobile 1 20k filter as they replaced the gasket to last I'll do one more with 10k and if I'm still seeing those then I'll try your filter. Thanks for the info though I've never heard of it

I haven't used any additives other then I tried the yellow bottle of heat on a 5 gallon of gas to see if it would raise octane.... It doesn't

That oil use interval (10k) seems way too high for a forced induction vehicle. I don't even go 1/2 as many miles between changes in my 5L coyote truck. No matter what Ford or the oil company claims. It's a more stressful environment than an n/a engine.

HEET has no lead nor does it cause such damage. Good to go. May be lead in the air, IDK, dont normally hear of that. But sometimes oil storage containers have minute traces of lead that leach into the ****** oil. Could be that.

With oil, i like to overspec than underspec. Use ep oil where standard oil will do. I find a lot of people forgetting to change oil on time. This is CHEAP insurance. You get a better base stock, and maybe a small bump in add packs.

Mobil1 ep filter is a good one. The BOSS has been tested by many in the naturally aspirated Edge community and has given outstanding results every time. You csn give it a go if you like, but i think the Mobil1 filter is just fine.

Yes I didn't intend to go that far but that's why Blackstone is so good they been doing this for awial and have insite in this and they give you information they are advising that I could go longer

I'd recommend if you curious about then to take a listen to their slick talk podcast that they actually take apart motors as part of training so they know what all this looks like you can have 1 ppm of iron in your eye and never know it

My iron was super high at 86, but that was with oil that I have no idea what kind or how many miles were on it. Silicone and potassium were high as well. I'm assuming the timing chains were done recently and it's all left over from the work done. I'll be sampling again here shortly to see what's up.

Looks like normal breakin stuff, SN+ oil in use. Should ease up soon. Potassium might be left over from a water pump leak prior to the timing job. Should taper off as well. There were some SN oils that used potassium in their formulation, I think that has pretty much bit the dust with SN+.

It takes a sHEET load of heet to make a difference but it will eventually. Torco is better for octane boosting
