Hey. Let me try to explain it, but I'm sure you all know what I am talking about. The black trim or body line that runs throughout the side and the doors. On my drivers side door it is all rusted, but the rest of the car is fine. Is this piece replaceable and why would just that piece rust?

Yeah they are prone to rust out on the doors. I heard a good fix for this is to get the stainless steel ones off of the regular Taurus and paint them black.

FYI: The trim Denny is speaking of is only on '89-'91 Taurus LX models.

Sorry for reviving this old post but wanted to see if this was the only solution. Does anyone know of an internet site that might actually carry this part?

New ones show up on ebay from time to time but they are usually included with the door clading. If you new the ford part number you might be able to get on form Ford.

DO NOT LAUGH!

Those are readily available ... just about anywhere. It's the same size and shape metal as a strip of telescoping curtain rod.

I changed out my crusty metal strip like 10 years ago with this stuff. Cut it to length, bent the ends shut, primered it and painted it.

All for less than $10.
And the original hardware (the small sliding plastic hold down bolts), works great.

If I had a GEN1 I would make a how-to for sticky status.
