Ok, so here's the deal. On my 92 MTX, I have installed a set of SHO Shop underdrive pulleys. On the AC Belt side, the only underdrive pulley utilized is the Alternator pulley. When I first installed this pulley, all was well and my belt lasted me about 2 years before it started to slip on me. Eversince I replaced that belt, the most any AC belt has lasted me has been roughly 4-5 months. The most current AC Belt I have on there is 3 weeks old and has already started to slip. Before you ask, yes I tensioned them properly. Im on at least my 5th belt in the past year and Ive tried purposely tightening the everliving crap out of one of them just to see if it helps and it doesn't. I also noticed that the belt will often slip worse if the climate control is engaged, or often stop slipping if I turn the climate control off. However, over the summer, I had a mechanic inspect the AC unit and he said it was fine. So what could possibly be wrong here?? Why does my car keep going through belts like freakin popcorn!?!?

That almost sounds like your A/C Compressor has some serious issues. When I got my 93 MTX it didn't have very much Freon (R12) in the lines, and would cause the compressor to almost pull a vacum becasue the level was so low. I figured this out with a set of gauges (high and low) and the low side was indeed TRYING to pull a vaccum. At idle, the car would almost die, and at any speed > idle, the belt would slip. But the A/C would put out SOME cold air ;) Probably not good for the compressor, but oh well, the A/C is the least of my worries ;)

I see you took it to a mechanic that checked it out. 2nd opinion might help because he may have just tapped onto the high side and saw that everythign was fine. You also might have a small leak and the level has gone down over time. I would serious consider taking another look at the AC system. If you take it to the local good old boy shop, see if you can watch the mechanic w/ the pressure gauges and look at the low side. The low pressure gauges on GOOD sets have a vaccum / pressure reading. You WILL notice if it trys to pull a vaccum ;)

How are the idler pulley bearings? Did you check to see if any of the pulleys are loose or backing out? Are the idlers able to keep tension after adjustment? They could be beat. Make sure all the accessories are spinning freely or at least correctly. There have been fitment issues with the SS UDP alt. pulleys in the past, but mine was so off that it would not spin at all unless I used a spacer.
