Hey guys,

For those of you who ran wiring for amplifiers, i need to know how you ran it through the firewakk. I have 4 gauge run to the amp already and can't find a decent spot to run it. Do I need to drill a hole or is there a suitable spot already there?

Thanks,
Ryan

I managed to find a hole (looking from underneath the car on the forward side of the firewall) on the driver's side right below the steering column. It had some fire-resistant material sealing the hole that punched through easily with my finger. Once light shined through, I knew I was good. Not sure if it's any different on your gen 1 (91) than my gen 2 (95).

You can use on of the existing grommets/plugs on the firewall. I think what the guy above was using was the pedal cable hole. There should be a free one depending on what type of transmission you have. The autos and manuals used different rubber grommets to run the cables for the accelerator and clutch. Every car was set up with both holes and whichever grommets weren't used were sealed with plugs to prevent water leaks. You just drill/cut through the rubber. Using your finger does it too but most likely dislodges it and water may be able to get through inside. If you can't find one or don't have a free one, you can just shove your amp wire through any existing grommet as long as it doesn't have any moving parts such as the steering column linkage. Make sure you use this because if you run your wire through a hole without the rubber, it will get sliced to shreds rubbing back n forth on the sharp metal of the firewall.

The hole I used was unoccupied. I'm not even sure why it's there to begin with but there was definitely nothing going through it.... until my finger came along :naughty: .

I usually don't run wiring inside of the car....I'll run it under the car and then punch a hole in the bottom of my trunk.

But this time around, I ran the cable through the fender, down the door and under the carpet. Works fine.

Gen 2 at least has an unused grommeted hole in the firewall that is a little bit hard to get to but works well. Underneath the engine compartment fuse box, behind the strut tower is a grommet in the firewall. It comes in to the passenger compartment way up behind the dash. I have my power wiring going from the terminal on the engine fuse block, through a fuse, through that hole, and down the driver side of the car inside (there is already a channel for all the wiring down the side of the car under the carpet, if you work hard enough, you can jam another wire or two through it.) The audio cables are going down the right side of the car.

i just poked a hole through the rubber grommet where the main wire harness runs through on the drivers side on top. there is enough room to drill a hole through without poking any wiring.
