Is there a conscious on the best way to replace a leaking rear cam seal behind the cam sensor? This is the only task that I need to do since I have done a recent 60K, but the seal is leaking again.

Remove the front of the motor and prying it out

Remove the intake and rear valve cover and cam cap from the top?

Another question. Does the seal have to be pressed fully into the enclosure, or just far to allow the CID housing to bolt up?

pull of the timing belt, pull off the pulley on the cam, then pull the seal, might have to pull that cam cap to get it out

and the seal has to be in all the way, anything else could leak / pop back out

Easiest thing for me to do was remove the intake, remove the rear valve cover. Remove that Cam Cap. No pulley on that one. The old seal pulls right out. Clean the area with a bit of either carb cleaner or brake cleaner. You can use a SMIDGEN and I mean a TINY EENCY LITTLE bit of silicone to help seal when you torque the cap back on. Reassemble and voila. Mines leak free for about 2wks now.

Also I used a part from my BallJoint Tool Kit to make sure it was seated all the way. Just make sure its OD is smaller than the seal, and the ID is larger than the end of the cam, Slide it on straight and reinstall the cap. Similar to how my Rear Main was installed on my 87 5.0 Mustang.
