I was trying to install my GM arms yesterday and I had a problem with two of the existing arms. It seems that the metal sleeve that was on the inside of the existing arm (knuckle end) is stuck on the bolt. I managed to get the arm off but I cant get the gm arms on because that stuck sleeve makes the bolt diameter too large. I tried beating on the bolt but nothing happened. So now what should I do: 1. Try heating it and slipping the existing sleeve off? 2. Not bother heating it and just cut and drill the whole bolt out? 3. Try slotting the sleeve and prying it off? Any other suggestions?

Also, anybody know the size of this bolt? Is it threaded all the way through the knuckle?

I could give you exacts and torque specs, but I will need to know what "exactly" you mean, do you have a way of giving us some pics? Is it the spacers that go through the arm ends? or the bolts with the little metal catch? Or what?

There are no threads that hold the bolts in the spindle, good 'ol rust is what's got a grip on 'em. Those sleeves are slotted/split, not a complete round tube. Clean the sleeves and find the slots, then pound a thin screwdriver blade into the slot to crack and expand it. Works best if you insert the screwdriver tip into the end of the sleeve and sort of follow the bolt. Don't use your favorite screwdriver, those sleeves are very hard metal. I'm not sure I would use heat on the bolts, that might destroy their heat-treat and hardness.

Heat the bolt/sleeve with a MAPP gas torch, then beat it out with a hammer. I used a 5 lb sledged which worked well. the heat is the key.

I got under the car again and found thoes slots which I missed the first time in the poorly lit garage. Pounded a screw driver in there and off they came. GM arms and H-brace are in. Thanks again.
